I’m on a roll.. It’s time to go solo…
May your heart always be joyful,
And may your song always be sung… Bob Dylan via Stoney LaRue
Well. Last night I made a last minute Wednesday night run to College Station from Houston to see Stoney Larue play a somewhat rare middle of the week show. I love those roadtrips when you start getting close and you wonder if you’re actually going to make it by onstage time, your total round trip drive time was longer than you were at the bar and you get less sleep after getting home than the artists spent on stage. Now those are good road trips! Then, the next day you wake and walk outside and the sun feels like it’s piercing your eyes and the thought crosses your mind… “Was it really worth it?” We all know the answer. Without a doubt, you’d do it all over again.
It was a rare show for me because, since we started Galleywinter, it’s been a very long time since I’ve been to a show and didn’t know anyone or at least meet someone new. It made me realize how much fun Galleywinter has made going to shows and talking about the show on the way home with friends. Now, I realize that everyone needs to get away once in a while and enjoy music without interuption and I’d encourage everyone to at least go see a show solo at least once a year. You tend to hear more of the music. Last night was one of those for me. But sharing it with friends is really what it’s all about!
So here’s to middle of the week road trips and sharing live music with friends! Try it sometime. Soon.
