Greenfest, Axl Rose, Jason Eady

This Saturday Galleywinter is having the 7th annual Greenfest party over at Rolling Oaks in San Antone. We throw this party every year as a way of saying thank you to the fans that support us and support music day after day. It’s been such a rollercoaster of ups and downs over the last 7+ years but when I think about it really hard.. every second has been worth it. I’ve seen people come and go, people get married, people have had children, friendships grow, new music found, people moving to Texas, and the good times far outweighing the bad. It was a little over 7 years ago when I met JP “HogLeg” Long when I drove up from Houston and he drove down from Dallas to meet in Waco to discuss the first GreenFest we were going to have. Some “friend” of our had set up an interview with the local radio station, so we met there all fired up about the chance to spread the word via radio. 5 minutes into being there we realized they had never heard who we were, never planned on doing a remote broadcast, never going to sponsor our event and had no more time for us. We walked out an JP turns to me and goes…

They looked at us like we had a panty on our head. Lets go to George’s and fire up the juke box and drink some Big-O’s

All I could do was just freaking laugh and agree. So we did… And GreenFest numero uno was birthed over some crazy wings and cold Miller Lite. 7 years later we have an awesome friendship and we’ll be heading down together to listen to our most solid lineup ever… Bo Cox, Larry Hooper, Scott Mathews, Drew Kennedy and Owen Temple open acoustically… then Jason Eady, Hayes Carll and Bleu Edmondson turn it up full band style to close out the night.

And now a little Axl Rose humor… One of the funniest things I’ve read in a few weeks is the drink company Dr. Pepper got involved with the music scene recently and released a statement saying basically that if Axl Rose/G-n-R’s long winded attempt (read 14 years) at the album, Chinese Democracy, gets released this year they will give a free can of Dr. Pepper to everyone in the US. Brilliant. I love their quote, “It took a little patience for us to perfect Dr Pepper’s special mix of 23 ingredients, so we completely understand and empathize with Axl’s quest for the perfect album.”

Finally, Jason Eady and the Wayward Apostles have been on heavy rotation in my stereo the last few weeks, as I gear up for them playing GreenFest. I’ve got to say that I really enjoy this band and I predict that they will be the talk on everyone’s lips after GreenFest this year. Go see these guys… they are amazing. Take a listen below to Back To Jackson off their latest album. It has such a great groove to it.
