How things used to be

3 hours before Randy Rogers Band was set to play to a sold out crowd in Houston I was reminded of a Willie Nelson song my parents used to play over and over on the turntable. A friend brought a little boy up to watch sound check and get his guitar signed by his favorite artist… the RRB. Apparently his favorite song is “Again” and he waited patiently in hopes to hear it. No such luck during the sound check. So we were heading out with a somewhat disappointed little boy and I stepped outside to take a call. When I walked back in the words to this Willie song just seemed to fit when I saw Randy had taken a few minutes out of his busy schedule to sit down and sing a special version of “Again” just to make a little kids week a little brighter.

I grew up a-dreamin’ of bein’ a cowboy,
and Lovin’ the cowboy ways.
Pursuin’ the life of my high-ridin’ heroes,
I burned up my childhood days.

I think it’s easy to second guess how these guys will/do handle the fame and success. It’s good to know that the guys we support stay true to the things they believe in and this is proof to all the second guessers out there and just another reason to make me love this music even more.
My heroes have always been cowboys. And they still are, it seems…
