Potbelly’s, Black Crowes & Not Giving Up
Lunch and Live Music
I went out to lunch yesterday with Christy and we ended up at Potbelly’s Sandwich Works over off 59 and Buffalo Speedway. I’ve eaten there once before up in the DFW and liked it so I figured I’d give it a shot down here. It’s a cool atmosphere and the unique thing is that they usually have some live music being played. Typically up on a platform they’ll have someone playing an acoustic or something that isn’t too loud, but loud enough to set a great mood for the place. When we left we were talking about the place and having live music like that really takes you away from your day and creates a get away. I put me in a better mood for sure. So check it out if you get a chance.. they seem to have them in most of the major cities.

Warpaint
March 4th marks the first album release in 7 years for The Black Crowes. The title is ‘Warpaint’ and from what I’ve heard off this album, it’s nothing less than an album that just might take back some of the soul that pop music has stolen from rock and roll. The first single ‘Good Bye Daughters of the Revolution” can be heard on their official website and their myspace. I’ve been a fan of the Black Crowes since Shake Your Moneymaker came out in 1990 and just recently got a chance to see them live at the CCR Red Dirt Roundup in the DFW. I can say it was one of the best live shows I’ve ever been to and I think they might have harnessed that energy and put it into this album. When asked if the fighting spirit of this album has any political message Chris responds with…
I say no, my politics are the politics of beauty. And if that’s something you’re into then you have to understand the myriad of shades we have in something beautiful – from joy to pain to sorrow, from tenderness to ugliness. All those things are in there.
Learning From Losing
Brad’s Corner this month over on Galleywinter is a great read and a plea to both up and coming artists and fans to not give up when it seems you’re not making any progress. It’s a great positive message and encouragement to contrast a bout of negativity that Galleywinter had gotten last week over coverage of Roger Creager getting busted with a couple young girls and alcohol in a hotel room. Also in contrast is Andrew’s second chance at loving live music. It’s stories like this… that keep me pushing hard to bring people together in this scene. So keep on keeping on everybody… some people are noticing even if Roger Creager isn’t.

P- Did you go to the one in Austin or Houston. I’d bet that over in Austin you guys would get a better quality of musicians.

I’ve been wanting to go there. I had no idea they had live music. What a great way to spend your lunch hour.

Potbelly is Kristin’s favorite sandwich joint. We have to hit one up anytime we are near one. She’s been petitioning them via their website to add a centex location.

Dude I’ve been to Potbelly’s and that place rocked. I totally remember the live music thing and thought that was a great idea.
