Remembering Martin

Growing up in small town Texas we never really actively celebrated Martin Luther King Day, but as I’ve grown older I’ve developed a love for history and those that were pivotal in making our country the great place it is. Yesterday was MLK Day and as I sit back and reflect on what a loss his death was to this country, a song came to mind that I heard years ago. It was a dark bar room and Ian Moore was singing Blue Sky and all of a sudden wove in the song “Abraham, Martin & John”. It’s a powerful song written by Dion about Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy… all taken in the height of their youth. Ray Charles later recorded the song, but in my opinion it’s the strong blues/rock infused style of Ian Moore that does this song justice. Give a listen at least out of respect of those that have gone before their time.

Abraham, Martin & John - performed by Ian Moore
Anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?
Won’t you tell me where he’s gone?
He freed alot of people but they say the good they die young
You know I just looked around and he’s gone
Anybody here seen my old friend John?
Can you tell me where he’s gone?
He freed alot of people but they say the good they die young
I just looked around and he’s gone
Anybody here seen my old friend Martin?
Oh Brother Martin.. where have you gone?
He freed alot of people but they say the good they die young
I just looked around and he’s gone
