Ryan Bingham – Hallelujah

Tonight Ryan Bingham walked across the stage to accept his Academy Award for Best Original Song (“The Weary Kind“). Almost 2 years to the day I saw him play not 5 blocks from that very Kodak Theatre to a crowd of a hundred or so. He’s come a long way… and has such a bright future ahead of him. Words can’t express ow proud I am to see him make it this far.

In honor of the win, here’s an bootlegged song I ran across that I can only hope will be on the upcoming album (Grammy.. what?)

The other day I found myself up on the corner
I thought I run into a friend of mine
Ended up that he was just a stranger
I said hello as he passed me by

Then he turned and put a gun to my head
He said, My friend I’m going to rob you blind
I said You must be out of your luck
I ain’t got no money and I’m all out of time

He pulled the trigger and I fell to my knees
My spirit left and then my body went cold
I’m looking down upon the lights of the city
I feel alive, but I’m dead and gone

Ain’t no more begging on the side of the road
Ain’t no more sleeping on the edge of a frown
Ain’t no more favors from someone I don’t know
There ain’t nobody to hear me, there ain’t nobody around

Hallelujah, somethings wrong
Hallelujah, somethings wrong
Hallelujah, dead and gone
Hallelujah, it’s just a song

So tell me now if your singing can bring me
Another day with my feet on the ground
I miss living and living misses me
I miss it so, that it’s holding me down

For all the things that I never could change
For all the reasons that I never understood why

I’m dead and gone, baby
There’s somethings wrong, baby
Oh somethings wrong cause you know I still feel alive

My train is rolling down the line
and I’m waiting for it to bring me a dream
of holding you up in my eyes

I’m dead and gone, baby
I’m so alone, baby
And hear my song cause I’m coming down

I’m not a one nighter
I ain’t a flat liner
I’ve never came between the harmonies you’re singing loud

Hallelujah, somethings wrong
Hallelujah, it’s just a song
Hallelujah, somethings wrong
Hallelujah, it’s just a song

The other day I found myself up on the corner
I thought I run into a friend of mine…

He sang this on XM a couple of months ago and called it “new” music. He alluded to the fact that it would be on the new album. Rock.

Just saw him perform it live last night and his talents on the guitar with the words of the song make you want to cry! He is truly a fabulous singer/songwriter. Thanks for posting the words!

His songs are so deep. Like, what does he mean by: “Shooting 8-ball at the corner truck stop?”

Do they put truck stops on corners in New Mexico? Because most big tractor-type trucks don’t necessarily have the best turning radii, so I’m thinking that maybe it’s a metaphor for something else that’s really deep.

I also love his line: “Take me to France, watch me dance.”

That one just blows my mind. I wonder what it could mean!

Mad proppers to Bingham … he deserves everything he gets.

you’re totally right Guillermo. I mean, I can’t believe he would use short prepositions like “the” or “at” in his writing. So shallow. O_o
