Ryan Bingham – The Weary Kind

Opening December 16th is the long awaiting movie “Crazy Heart” about a broken-down, hard-living country music singer and his road to redemption. It’s a limited release (but is already getting Oscar buzz) with Jeff Bridges, Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall, Maggie Gyllenhaal and our own Ryan Bingham & the Dead Horses as the backing band. You can see the trailer over at crazyheartmovie.com

The soundtrack was done by T. Bone Burnett and the featured song, “The Weary Kind”, is penned and produced by himself and Ryan Bingham. I would have never dreamed this combination would work, but it’s one of the best recorded songs I’ve heard Bingham put out.

Your heart’s on the loose
You rolled them seven’s with nothing lose
And this ain’t no place for the weary kind

You called all your shots
Shooting 8 ball at the corner truck stop
Somehow this don’t feel like home anymore

And this ain’t no place for the weary kind
And this ain’t no place to lose your mind
And this ain’t no place to fall behind
Pick up your crazy heart and give it one more try

Your body aches…
Playing your guitar and sweating out the hate
The days and the nights all feel the same

Whiskey has been a thorn in your side
and it doesn’t forget
the highway that calls for your heart inside

And this ain’t no place for the weary kind
And this ain’t no place to lose your mind
And this ain’t no place to fall behind
Pick up your crazy heart and give it one more try

Your lovers won’t kiss…
It’s too damn far from your fingertips
You are the man that ruined her world

Your heart’s on the loose
You rolled them seven’s with nothing lose
And this ain’t no place for the weary kind

I was just browsing around trying to find release information for the movie and ended up on the IMDB message boards where people were talking about the song (and showing Bingham some love). A couple people were willing to fight to the death that it was Springsteen singing.

Such a beautiful tune. Such a soulful voice. I ache to tears every time I listen to it. Saw the movie for the second time last night (first was at the premiere in L.A.!) and loved it again. A beautiful project overall. I hope this songs wins “best” because it is. It’s haunting in its beauty.

This song gets in your head and just wont let go. There’s just something about the words and melody…..damn!

LG1726  on January 13th, 2010

Its like Bob Dylan met country

I agree…. I ran into this song accidentally and really enjoyed it. it has a classic feel to it. beautiful song.

This song just inspired me to write a story. I feel that it’s genuine and I absolutely love the sound. This guy doesn’t need any back up singers to support the meaning or the tone of the piece. And it truly is a “weary kind” of song, which seldom appears in music anymore in my opinion. I love this song now.

paul  on January 18th, 2010

Not a great song, just generic, oh-weary me formula.
Real Austin musicians are laughing at this.

Ryan  on January 18th, 2010

Care to list these Austin Musicians that are laughing? Most musicians I’ve talked to are very proud of Ryan and what he’s done with this song.

But then again I’m not sure I care. Most “Austin” Musicians will still be in Austin becuase all they can do is bitch and not write Golden Globe winners. or maybe I’ll care when T-bone Burrnet calls them

Do you know when the movie Crazy Heart opens everywhere in theatres? I’ve heard sometime in January or Febuary?

@kaoudj – Last word I heard was Feb 5th is the nationwide release

Heard Ryan Bingham when he came to Arizona and he’s very original. Was delightfully surprised to hear his voice when watching the Crazy Heart trailer. Very cool. Beautiful song. Congratulations to him and T-Bone Burnett.

does anyone have the mp3 for “i dont know”

Alan  on February 12th, 2010

I know the aunt of one the band members and she is humble and proud of him and the success of the movie and this song and the way it has touched so many. I’m not surprised that some musicians in Austin would laugh and make light of the assume success of this song. Perhaps they are not laughing but really crying on the inside that it was not their success. Lets face it getting your foot in the door of this business is not easy and it looks like Bingham has kicked the door wide open.

susie  on February 17th, 2010

I agree with whoever said it sounds like Bob Dylan. Listen to his son’s song Something Good This Way Comes. BTW, it’s Jakob Dylan of the Wallflowers :) hes super-cute!

XxpopsiclexX  on February 17th, 2010

This song made me cry the first time I heard it (on VH1 Jump Start at 6:00 in the morning lmao) It inspired me to let go of something I’d been holding on to and move on into bigger and better things in my life. I might have mis interpretted the meaning but to me it meant that give love another chance and kind of chastising people who leave others heart broken. This song is to let them know that they will get back up again and it is so true =) <3 I love this song soo muchh!!!

Danny Vitiello  on February 22nd, 2010

This song sounds like it was written by Kris Kristofferson. It should go to the top of the charts. Good luck with it.

Are you kidding? A little bitter are we? And which musician is laughing? The broke one? The unsuccessful ones? (you) Quit hatin. Awesome song, awesome voice

great song…. and the movie demonstrates the sad state of most current-day “country” songs where T-Bone and company can come up with a movie full of great country tunes.. but tune into any popular country music station and the new songs (for the most part) are sh*t…

Amir Thompson  on June 5th, 2010

Brilliant tune. I love it!
