Steamboat 09 – Day 4

Day 4 started like most.. just slower. This lack of sleep is starting to catch up… not that it’s not worth it! All of our crew were pretty much in agreement that we were all going to Adam Hood at Bear River followed by Band of Heathens. I missed Hood the night before so I was really amped up to see him take the stage. I had a brief chat with him before the show and he said he was playing an acoustic set with no set list. Perfect. Adam never fails to amaze me, even playing the same songs he’s played for a while. He also brought several new ones that he had recently written and proved he’s still just at good at writing as he is at singing.

The Band of Heathens took the stage next and completely amazed newcomers to the bands music. For those of us that are familiar with their music, they put on one of the most amazing sets I’ve ever seen. It was even complete with a Townes cover of “If I Needed You”. I tried getting a video of it but couldn’t get my camera out in time and realized that just sitting back and watching it was much more moving. Ray Wylie Hubbard even joined them onstage at one point and had Bingham leading the charge to stand and dance in front of all the seated people! Have I mentioned I love Steamboat?

After a short trip back up to the condo for dinner we were torn between the big acoustic song swap at the tent with everyone that you could for… or to head back to Bear River for an acoustic show with Hayes and friends… or over to The Grand for Dedringers, RWH and Wade Bowen. I went for the Hayes route since I haven’t seen him in forever.. and the fact that I’m not a fan of the huge acoustic shows. Not that they aren’t good.. just not my thing. All 3 options turned out to be winners from what I heard. I can tell you that Hayes was on his game and had both Cody Braun and Brady Black playing fiddle with him.
